What is Certified Self-Containment?

A certified self-contained vehicle is designed to fulfill the ablutionary and sanitary requirements

 

If you own a motor caravan or caravan in New Zealand, it’s important to understand the current self containment requirements. The green warrant system is regulated under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006 and the Self-Contained Vehicles Regulations 2023. These rules help protect the environment and public health by ensuring proper waste and water management.

OFFICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Minimum self containment requires:​

  • Tank for drinking water. (12 litres for each person)
  • Non-toxic fresh water supply hose that is opaque or coloured.
  • Sink.
  • Grey water tank with a vent (12 litres per person)
  • Rubbish bin with a sealed lid.
  • Permanently fixed toilet, that can be used inside the vehicle at all times, including when the bed is fully made. Minimum of 3 litres per person
